The Greater Evil

All I want is an end to poverty. To achieve this, I have reformulated political economy in my magnum opus. Along the way, I have proposed several reforms and have even had one implemented, to the benefit of the people in general. However, many reforms which others and I have long supported, which seemed to us a matter of obvious decency, have been ignored in favor of what can only be called “fads”. In all of these civic efforts, I have found elective politics a distraction, at best. We are seeing, now, the worst, where the attempt to reverse the Constitutional choosing of a President by anti-Constitutional means has assured the continued distraction of elective politics and its poisoning of the public discourse for the foreseeable future.

Perhaps it would be helpful for those who have been so consumed with the spirit of moral hatred to compare what they see as the inexcusable offenses of the present President with the offense of the country which I have charitably called indecent, and for which many of us have been unable to summon a comparable level of public outrage.

That offense is slavery. It has become more practiced, not less, in recent years. It has been excused, if that can be the word for a dehumanizing categorization by which some of our fellows are called “criminals”, and subjected to treatment we would be horrified ever being applied to an animal. The callous viciousness of the public to those convicted of a crime is far more deserving of opprobrium than the most immoral President. Those who defend this heinous oppression will doubtless try to divert attention away from themselves and attack those who call them to account.

I will have none of it. There is no need for me or any other slavery abolitionist to condemn the arrogant members of the self-styled resistance. They have condemned themselves by their own presumption.
